WHY STONEY ACRES DONKEYS ARE SPECIAL

We encourage customers who have purchased donkeys they are unable to take home (e.g. before weaning, home facilities not ready, etc.) to visit as much as possible and bond with their new family member.  We have developed many long term relationships and friendships with our customers.  Some new customers who are purchasing donkeys to be "companions" for horses may require extra time and information to make sure all goes smoothly.  As we always want the customer to be happy with his new addition, we frequently take time to check out the facilities (if reasonably close) OR in the event of distance, have them send or bring photos of the prospective facility.  We try to make the initial introduction of horse to donkey as smooth as possible.  Stoney Acres is fine with a donkey becoming a permanent companion for a retired horse.  We frown on donkeys becoming companions for horses whigh will be ridden and taken away from their little companion.  Miniature donkeys are very social and become depressed when left alone.  If a donkey is going to a home that consists of horses that are ridden on a regular basis, we strongly encourage a PAIR of donkeys to be purchased, so they can have a buddy when the horses are gone.

Medical & hoof care are important for any animal.  We have spent many years reading, gathering knowledge, attending clinics and seminars regarding donkey health.  All Stoney Acres donkeys have documented medical and training records from birth.  This is extremely beneficial long term as it enables us and prospective buyers to know their animal better.  For instance, in training  if a donkey consistently requires coaxing to perform certain tasks, it is perhaps letting you know that it is more cautious than most and does not really enjoy partaking in competitions.  Many times this personality reflects the donkey that enjoys a one-on-one relationship with a human who is more laid back and just wants a companion, not a "performer".  Matching up the "special" donkey to the "special" new owner is very important to us here at Stoney Acres Ranch.

Many of our customers want to make sure the facilities they have prepared for their new "family members" are appropriate.  They really appreciate if we can come to their acreages/farms to critique the fencing and shelters.  We find ourselves delivering quite a few of them as it helps the transition from their old home to their new one.  It also gives the customer the opportunity to relax a little, seeing the donkey being handled by someone who is familiar and at ease with them.
